6 Month Sleep Regression Crying

I think we hear a lot about the 4 month sleep regression and how hard it is. I think we hear less about the 6 month sleep regression, which is actually a harder regression because of all the developmental milestones happening at the same time.

Here’s something you probably didn’t know about this regression, and to be quite honest, it’s something I’d forgotten until I was helping a friend recently. I didn’t have time to walk her through step by step what might be going on with her little one, so I said “here’s my notes from my class” and screenshotted and sent them. Guess what she found. The exact answer for why her little one was up in the night.

At 6 months, your baby may be up crying a scary, hurt cry in the night around 1am and 4:30am. They’re not hungry, they’re not scared- they have gas.

I had *completely* forgotten about this note until she read it and said “that’s it! He was up at 1:20 and 4:30 crying and nothing helped!”

So what can we do? Sometimes I feel it helps a ton to just know the “why” behind something happening. However, something you can do during this time is wait to introduce new foods until after this regression. Give their bodies some time to figure things out and when they’re sleeping better and no longer waking with gas, continue giving new foods that they’re excited about.

If you’re feeling completely lost and not sure how to get your little one’s sleep back on the right track, I can help. We can have you sleeping better in as little as 3 nights. Click over to the Work With Me page to schedule a call. Just a few changes can be all it takes to get better sleep.
